Rant: Self Defense
It’s actually been quite awhile since I did a good rant post and got some interesting feedback from readers. This one is sure to spark some controversy. It’s about the ability for citizens to carry self-defense against criminals. In every state except for Wisconsin and Illinois you can get a permit to carry a gun, yet in many of these states things like mace, pepper spray, and a Taser Stun Gun are banned. The states include: Hawaii, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, & Wisconsin). I would never condone hurting another person who doesn’t deserve it. However, I am one who advocates self defense in a strong way. Sadly, I live in Wisconsin and cannot carry a gun or any non-lethal weapon. This is the reason for my rant. I think every citizen should have the right to protect themselves from becoming the victim of a crime. The company Brick House Security is among one of the great companies that offers non-lethal weapons that people can own. I really hope that you live in a state that I did not list previously.
Seriously who would not want one of these babies in your car:
It’s a M18 Advanced Air Taser, just like the ones Police Officers use in movies, and even real life in many states. It works up to 15 feet away. Yeah, it’s a little pricey at $400, but it’s worth it, I think. Naturally, there are other less pricey means of self defense available on the site as well such as the Pocket Guard Mini Stun-Gun for only $20.
Finally, let me finish by avoiding 1 question. Yes, I believe it is ok to ban these devices in airports, schools, and government buildings. Anywhere else? Give me 1 good reason.
Wordpress 2.1 - Have you upgraded? I didn’t…yet
Just 7 days after the release of 2.07, Wordpress 2.1 is out the door. Have you upgraded yet? I am going to wait until either my host, Dreamhost updates it’s 1-click install system for it, or Wordpress 2.11 because it seems like releases are flying out the door like no tomorrow these days. I don’t know if that is a complaint or a compliment to the Wordpress team.
Anyway though, yeah, it’s out. Upgrade or have a good reason to wait a little bit, like me.
