A new Keira Knightley movie is out!
Yet another Keira Knightley movie just hit DVD. The movie is ‘Silk’. Naturally I bought it and will try and watch it very soon and post a mini-review for everyone to read! I am thinking I should have time to watch it tonight so the review will come later tonight or during the weekend.
I bought 2 More HD-DVDs!
So you may have heard that some “source at Toshiba” says that Toshiba is going to get out of the HD-DVD player market. Who cares! In fact, this is good news, not bad news for owners of HD-DVD players. We are seeing crazy deals. Amazon has 100 for 50% Off, Best Buy has all 3 Matrix moves for $45, and even Xploited Cinema is slashing prices. Warner Bros is likely to still release HD-DVD until May 2008 and Universal and Paramount/Dreamworks have yet to say if they’re switching.
Anyway, the 2 movies I got are both imports from Germany that I bought from Xploited Cinema. They are, Resident Evil (which is a Blu-Ray Exlusive in the United States) and Elephant’s Dream (not released on any format in the United States) - which is a digital short film that features awesome extras like hd-sd comparison and vc-1 codec versus mepg-2 codec.
I’m planning on buying many more HD-DVDs in the very near future as prices fall like crazy. It’s a little sad to know that it’s pretty likely that I will have to switch back to DVD come May-July. However, my parents HD-DVD player, and the one I AM STILL PLANNING ON BUYING will upconvert standard DVDs very nicely.
While I love my Sony Ericcson phone and my new Sony Bluetooth headphones (for my phone) and several movies released by Sony, I look at their record with with new data formats and become scared. Betamax anyone? UMD Movies? Mini-Disc?
Super Media Store…to help backup Keira Knightley
Although I don’t typically talk about in on my blog, I figured now would be as good a time as any. I am a strong believer in the ‘fair use’ debate that is raging between content providers and consumers. I strongly believe that if I own a DVD, I have every right to make backup copies of it. It doesn’t matter if I need these copies so I can watch DVD movies in my dual booted Linux Operating System or because I am afraid that my original copies could some day become scratched and unplayable.
So, because of this fact, I use many programs available, and make backup copies of DVDs that I own. This holds true very much for my array of Keira Knightley DVDs, obviously. As I have said in the past, in some ways they’re my most prized possessions. My Keira Knightley DVDs are a collection and intentional effort on my part to have them all. They are not my most prized possessions because I am obsessed, although one could argue that is the reason I chose to start the collection.
Nevertheless, they must be backed up. Backups would be of no point if I burned them to low quality discs and not all DVD media is created equal. So, it’s great to keep up with the best DVD media and have a trusted place to buy the media. If you’ve been burned by other places before, you may want to consider buying from Super Media Store.

Established in 2002, Supermediastore.com is a major reseller and wholesaler of blank CD DVD media products in Southern California, supplying a wide variety of blank CD DVD media, CD DVD packaging case, computer hardware, memory, ink and toner cartridges.
Of course, Super Media Store sells other things besides blank DVDs.
I bought Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
While I had planned to sell my copies of the first 2 movies and wait until they came out with a trilogy pack I decided too just buy the 3rd movie and complete my collection. While I would have loved to buy a trilogy pack, the only thing it would have had really is a few extra special features. While I generally do watch special features on DVDs, I only watch them once. Also, that being said I am not really going to know exactly what special features I would be missing by getting the full trilogy box set, so I should be alright.
Of course I had already seen Pirates of the Caribbean in the theater, but I watched the DVD last night. I also watched a couple of the special features. The blooper real is pretty funny. Tonight I am hoping to throw in my bonus disc (I bought the 2 disc special edition) and check out everything that has to offer.
My Black Friday (and Thanksgiving) experience
Last year I learned about Black Friday. My mom went and got in line at Best Buy only a few hours before the store opened to try and get me a widescreen monitor. When she got in, they were already gone. This year I cam back from hunting early, and decided to wait in front of Best Buy myself. It was my first year, as a Black Friday Newbie, and here is my story.
The preparation and arrival
On Wednesday night I set my cellphone to have an alarm at 7:37 AM (I don’t like putting alarms at times like 7:30 AM or 7:00 AM). The intention was to wake up, take a shower and load up my car and be at Best Buy before 10:00 AM to at the very least check the line. Instead I woke up before my alarm went off at around 7:02 AM and promptly took a shower and loaded up my car. When I got to Best Buy there was already a car in the parking lot. It was 2 guys “holding” 4 spots. I would later learn they got there around 7:00 AM in the morning but also checked the line the night before to make sure that they were first in line.
The long wait
Since some people had already arrived I called my good friend the opinionated blogger who was going to wait in line with me. I asked him if I should stay or go since there was only a few people in line. He said stay, and got their himself about an hour later. In that hour 8 more spots in line were taken.
By the time 3:00 PM on Thursday rolled around there was probably close to 20 people in line at my Best Buy. Basically, all 20 of those people certainly got what they wanted so getting there at 8:30 AM was completely unnecessary but it was a different experience to “stand” in line at Best Buy for 20.5 hours and I will probably do it again next year.
I was all dressed in warm hunting clothes, opinionated blogger wad dressed up in warm snow boarding clothes. We setup a tent and some chairs outside the tent. We also had a space heater which we turned on every once in awhile to get the feeling back in our feet and hands. We had lunch brought to us by my Mom and a thanksgiving dinner brought to us by opinionated blogger’s Mom and sister. We walked around, met a few people and did even made a list of the first 167 people in line just to waist some time.
What we bought
In the end, my Mom actually joined us so that I could get 2 laptops, 1 for me, and 1 to either give to my brother-in-law or sell on eBay (it ended up on eBay). I also bought a 22″ Widescreen monitor and an Sandisk mp3 player that will be a gift for someone. My mom bought a camera, 2 mp3 players, a gps, and several dvds that will be gifts. Opinionated blogger bought his girlfriend a laptop, his mom a gps and bluetooth headset, and himself a 2GB usb flash drive.
Making the news!
On a side note, opinionated blogger and I made the 10:00 PM news in our city!
